Mouldy lunch bag?

No one's immune - not even us! But we've tried and tested a bunch of products and have come up with a winner!

Let’s be real – lunch bags go through it.

They’re used every single day, exposed to spills, squished snacks, damp drink bottles, and sometimes even soggy hats or wet clothes from daycare or school. It’s no wonder they need a little TLC from time to time.

That’s why we’ve pulled together our best tips for keeping your Kinnder lunch bag clean, hygienic, and fresh – so it lasts the distance (and doesn’t surprise you with an unpleasant smell one morning).

Daily Habits to Prevent Mould

After each use, give your lunch bag a quick wipe-over with a damp cloth and mild detergent if needed. Then, air it out properly.

Here’s how:

Place the lunch bag open on a drying rack or hang it on the clothesline

Stand it on its end to help airflow reach every corner

Whenever possible, dry it in full sun – nature’s best disinfectant!

Never leave lunch bags zipped up in school bags, outside overnight, or in the car, where moisture builds and mould can take hold

Can I Machine Wash My Kinnder Lunch Bag?

Yes! Kinnder lunch bags are made from high-quality materials that can be machine-washed – but we don’t recommend doing it every week. Spot cleaning is always best to preserve their structure and lifespan.

If your lunch bag needs a deeper clean, here’s how to do it the right way:

DO THIS:

✅ Zip the zips
✅ Clip the clips
✅ Cold & gentle cycle
✅ Dry fully before next use

DON’T DO THIS:

❌ Hot water
❌ Bleach
❌ Tumble dry
❌ Leave unzipped – this causes pulling and damage
❌ Use a washing machine with an agitator

What If There’s Already Mould?

Sometimes, despite your best efforts, lunch bags can develop mould – especially when left damp or exposed to spills at daycare or school.

If that’s the case, we recommend trying:

Strike Pro Mould Killer

  • Effectively removes mould and stubborn stains
  • Available at most hardware or cleaning supply stores
  • Always spot test first – while we’ve had great success, it’s possible the product may affect colours depending on the fabric or print

How To Use

Spray it on the mould

Let it sit for about 5 minutes

Wipe and put it through a quick wash in your washing machine to avoid discolouring

Note: This spray contains bleach and will change the colour of the print if left on too long!!

After treating with Strike Pro, give the bag a gentle machine wash (see instructions above) and ensure it dries completely before next use.

Quick Tips to Remember:

🧽 Spot clean whenever possible to help your bag last longer
🌬️ Always dry and air bags between uses to reduce the risk of mould

Keeping your Kinnder lunch bag clean doesn’t need to be hard – just a few small habits each day go a long way to keeping things fresh, hygienic, and long-lasting.
